Globeducate reading hour
Globeducate organized a reading hour where all of us took some time off our busy day and read a text of our choice. In the reading hour, I read the book “six of crows” which is the first novel in the duology written by Leigh Bargudo. It’s a novel about six thieves trying to pull off an impossible heist. I enjoyed the reading experience since it allowed me to relax and catch my breath after a tough day of learning. The book was suspenseful and had a lot of fantasy elements.
I'm an avid reader of fantasy and consider it an escape from reality. The reality is difficult, sad and harsh. A book like this makes me forget all of my troubles for a moment and sometimes even gives me inspiration. To enjoy fantasy, you have to be open-minded as its a genre filled with unlimited possibilities. I could not read the entire book in an hour, but I did have fun reading the first few chapters. Books also make you knowledgeable, another IB profile. Fantasy books like these are usually based on some sort of a myth or a cultural belief and this will provide us exposure to that cultural link. The book also made me a thinker, because it was suspenseful, I thought a lot about what was happening and what could have happened. It also made me think about how fantasy novels became popular as a whole since its a genre based more on beliefs than facts.
